Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park is a located in the northwestern part of Florida in the city of Gainesville. This park’s showpiece is the 120″ deep and 500″ wide sinkhole that formed due to the collapse of limestone. A boardwalk was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to go in and view – after decades, we are still able to take a stroll into the hole down the 132 step boardwalk to enjoy the view! There are 12 spring heads that feed natural water to the area. The green vegetation and sound of trickling water resembles tropical rainforest vibes; this is also felt in the dense, humid air that is prominent in this area. Along with the main attraction, this park offers a great interactive exhibit, hiking trails, picnic areas, restrooms and plentiful parking for all to enjoy!
