Mckee Botanical Gardens

In 1922, Arthur McKee and Waldo Sexton purchased 80 acres with plans of developing the land into a citrus plantation, but ultimately decided to preserve the lands natural beauty.

Working with a landscape architect by the name of William Lyman Phillips, they created ”Mckee Jungle Gardens” which was very successful until the 1970s, when the gardens were closed and 62 acres of the land was developed into condominiums.

The leftover 18 acres were abandoned for 20 years until 2001, when the land was purchased and restored by the community to be the magical ”McKee Botanical Gardens” that we know and love today.

With over 10,000 tropical and native plants and an extravagant collection of water lilies, this garden is not one to miss!
